The kind of thinker that I am
My name is Oscar Miguel Rodríguez, I will share a part of the development of my critical thinking, through identifying the type of thinker that I am, through some experiences within my vocation as a teacher.
By profession I am a computer scientist, I love the world of computing and its different areas, application programming, preventive and corrective maintenance, installing and programming networks, are areas in which I consider myself a logical-substantive thinker and with experience a dialogical thinker.
The opportunity to work as a computer teacher for 24 years helped me find another vocation, that of being a group tutor, a subject in which I was not prepared. After ten years working as a computer teacher, my director of Secondary-Baccalaureate, Mtro. Jorge Garrido Pérez, observed characteristics of a tutor, which allowed me to discover new skills, among which, the capacity for reflection and analysis, both personally and for my students. The first year the results were not as expected, students and parents dissatisfied, fellow teachers emphasizing the lack of experience "youth does not help" and computer classes were downgraded, trying to cover two apparently opposite aspects. With the disappointment of not giving the apparent results; the Mtro. Garrido again gave me his trust, his support, advice, wisdom, but above all his experience to learn not to make the same mistakes again, using again reflection and analysis of all experiences, managing to turn them into learning.
The next 7 years were of growth, every day I learned something new, planning activities with students to promote communication, respect, despite youth seen as weakness, I learned to handle it as a strength, even with coworkers I learned to be a mediator for the management of conflicts between students, the management of parents in private schools is very opposite, because just as there are parents who favor the development and growth of their children by participating actively; There are also those that hinder, harmed not only their academic development but even personal and institutional. I have had the opportunity to receive both classes and based on the dialogue, the agreements, the limits and the opportunities I can say that I learned to work with parents. These years I managed to prepare myself in the vocation of being a tutor, continuing to teach my profession with an academic quality that I can now complement with human quality.
Therefore, it should be emphasized that at present the type of critical thinker that I am is based on Metacognition in its dialogic dimension, by the educational and institutional concepts that surround me to contrast and fix my point of view.
Regarding the contextual dimension, having this position allows me to determine the type of support that a student may require, for this I need socio-cultural information, on the other hand in the pragmatic dimension I get the formation of predefined values, having a personal style and myself known to my students, however, the need to support them in their family, social, emotional and cultural context allows me to adapt to these aspects, considering that there are professional limits, that is, there will be things that are not within my reach, but I will also be able to channel them to the appropriate person for continuity in the required support.
In this way I conclude by mentioning that through all the aforementioned experiences I have managed to develop critical thinking based on reflection, awareness and analysis of what I have learned, to improve and grow as a human being.
